Operating from an input voltage range of 2.55 to 40V, the converter features programmable switching frequency. The switching frequency can be programmed between 200kHz and 1.5MHz, via a single resistor or synchronised to an external clock. With this capability, the size of external components is minimised. This capability, along with the converter’s 3x3mm DFN-8 package (or MSOP-8E), ensure a small footprint and a reduction in cost.
The LT8580’s low VCESAT switch, which is 0.4V at 0.75A, delivers efficiencies of up to 86%. For optimal system performance, undervoltage lockout is user adjustable. Other features include external synchronisation capability, internal soft-start and thermal shutdown protection.
The converter is priced at $2.35 and sold in 1,000 piece quantities. Industrial and high temperature versions of the converters are also available. The LT8580IDD and the LT8580IMS8E, which operate from -40 to +125°C, are priced at $2.59 and sold in 1,000 piece quantities. The LT8580HDD and the LT8580HMS8E, which operate from -40 to +150°C, are priced at $2.84 and sold in 1,000 piece quantities.
