1W DC/DC converters improves efficiency by up to 8%

A 1W, DC/DC converter series has been launched with the manufacturer, Murata, claiming that the devices offer up to 8% more efficiency than similar devices currently on the market. Two input voltage versions are available from the NCS1 series of regulated, single output DC/DC converters.

Both versions accommodate the 4:1 input range of 4.5 – 18VDC around a 12VDC nominal, or 9 – 36VDC around a 24VDC nominal. The output voltage options of 3.3, 5, or 12VDC are regulated to within ± 0.5% of stated output. The improved efficiency of 8% helps lower overall system power consumption and also contributes to improving system reliability.

The devices also enable designers to reduce footprint, with the converters packaged in an industry standard, single-in-line format measuring 21.87 x 11.3 x 8.2mm. The converter is suitable for use in a wide range of operating temperature environments from – 40°C to 105°C with derating. The NCS1 series also features continuous short circuit protection.

Ann-Marie Bayliss, Product Manager, Murata Power Solutions said, “The NCS1 is up to 9% smaller than other similar SIP DC/DC converters. That coupled with an improved derating capability and a 4:1 input range makes the converter suitable for use in a broad range of industrial and telecommunications applications.”
