To assist customers in understanding the advantages of using Bulk Metal Foil resistors in their applications, Vishay has announced that it has added streaming video demonstrations to its Web site. Vishay Bulk Metal Foil resistors are designed and manufactured to eliminate the inter-parameter compromise inherent in all other types of precision resistors.
All important characteristics — tolerance, long-term and load-life stability, temperature coefficient, noise, capacitance, inductance, and rise time — are optimum, approaching in total performance the theoretical idea of a straight wire of constant electrical resistance.

The first two three-minute videos feature an accelerated life test and highlight the TCR performance of Bulk Metal Foil devices. The resistors offer exceptional reliability and long-term stability compared to other resistor technologies. These videos enable engineers from anywhere in the world to view tests that demonstrate actual device performance at different temperatures, allowing potential users to see the differences in resistor technologies, and the in-circuit advantages of Bulk Metal Foil under real environmental conditions.

An upcoming four-minute video demonstrates the in-circuit performance of Vishay Bulk Metal Foil resistors when subjected to ESD, a major cause of component failure. Damage to an ESD-sensitive device depends on the device’s ability to dissipate energy and withstand the energy of the voltage levels While other resistor technologies may experience parametric failure, or catastrophic or latent damage, with electric potentials as low as 3 kV, the construction of Bulk Metal Foil devices allows them to withstand ESD up to 25 kV.
