Tiny Wire-Wound Chip Inductors for IC Input Power Circuits are said to be World’s smallest

TAIYO YUDEN has announced that its LBMF1608 series wire-wound chip inductors are now being produced at the rate of 10 million units per month. As the first-ever device to achieve a 47µH inductance rating in 0603 case size (1.6 x 0.8 x 0.8mm), the LBMF1608 is 33% smaller by volume than equivalent-rated 0805 inductors typically used in the IC input power circuits of cell phones, PDAs, still/video cameras and other mobile digital equipment.

The LBMF1608 series also provides a 51% smaller footprint and 64% lower profile than 0805 case size (2.0 x 1.25 x 1.25mm) devices—while retaining the same low DC resistance (RDC) and high-inductance characteristics of the larger-size component.
.
As with other TAIYO YUDEN inductors, the LBMF1608 series’ non-polarized electrodes simplify manufacturability by allowing the device to be mounted, right side up, regardless of orientation. A total of six part numbers are currently offered in the LBMF1608 series, the key specifications of which include:
