Cherry Electrical Products has announced the release of the D4 miniature micro-gap snap switch fulfilling the requirements of IEC 60335-1: GWFI@850C, GWIT@775C & GWT@750C, making this versatile model, with 15 termination configurations, suitable for the appliance market.
Whilst the requirements of the Glow-wire specification are met by the DB and DC models from Cherry, the new D4 also features approvals to EN 61058 and UL 1054; a high contact stability using material combinations of Gold (Au), Silver (Ag) and Platinum (Pt), across switching currents of 0.1A to 21A at 250VAC; and temperature range options from -40 to +150C. A high level of repeat accuracy gives excellent reliability.

A wide range of options in the switching operations, with or without the auxiliary actuator creates numerous opportunities for appliance market design engineers, and challenges established models in the supply chain. The data sheet provides detailed information on Electrical Life, Mechanical Life > 2 x 10 (5) to 1 x 10 (7), Standard and Light operating forces (45 to 400 cN standard), Terminal Material options, full on and off board mounting dimensional requirements, and how the three electrical configurations S.P.S.T. - N.O, S.P.S.T.- NC and S.P.D.T., relate. Switching parameters are also detailed showing pre-travel, over-travel, movement differential, rest position and operating point. All D4 models are packaged in PET (UL 94V-0) housings with POM (85C max) or PET actuators to IP 40 rated (switch interior) protection.

Michael Groom of Cherry Electrical Products UK commented, “With the D4 now achieving the requirements of the glow wire specification, the opportunity for Cherry to increase our position in the domestic appliance market has arrived.”
