Resistors are reliable even in humid environments

The Water Insoluble Nitride (WIN) resistor family has been introduced by TT Electronics. To provide high levels of reliability and stability for precision and signal conditioning applications, the thin film chip resistors use an advanced metal film technology. 

To offer more moisture resistance than nichrome and passivated nichrome resistor film technologies, the WIN resistors feature a water insoluble nitride film. To resist moisure failures associated with nichrome resistor films, the devices form a very stable oxide layer, which enables the devices to self-passivate. This moisture resistance, which has previously only been possible using high cost military grade tantalum nitride products, removes the need for expensive assembly-level sealing or encapsulation production processes.

Even in humid or polluted environments and in the event of damage to the component’s coating, the resistors deliver highly stable, predictable life drift and high reliability.

The WIN resistors are available in 0603, 0805 and 1206 sizes at 0.1, 0.25 and 0.33W respectively. Resistance values from 10R to 1M0 with a tolerance of +0.1% and TCR of +25ppm/°C are offered with the resistors. Therefore, the devices, which feature sulphur resistant terminations, are suitable for mission critical applications in harsh environments in the medical, aerospace and industrial sectors.
