Vishay Intertechnology has enhanced its T55 series of vPolyTan SMT polymer tantalum moulded chip capacitors with eight new ratings in the A, B, and T (low-profile B - 1.2mm max.) case sizes. Taking advantage of Vishay's package technology and recent investments in polymer tantalum technology, the Vishay Polytech T55 series offers significantly higher capacitance and lower ESR for computer, telecomms and industrial applications.

At 2.5V, capacitors in the B case now offer higher capacitance to 470µF with ESR of 25mΩ, in addition to lower ESR of 25mΩ at a capacitance of 330µF. At 6.3V, devices in the A and T case sizes provide improved ESR of 70mΩ at 100µF, while B case devices feature lower ESR of 40mΩ at 33µF and 35mΩ at 220µF. At 10V, devices in the B case size offer enhanced ESR of 70mΩ at 47µF.

The low ESR of the T55 capacitors is a result of their polymer cathodes, which offer greatly enhanced performance over manganese dioxide devices. In addition, the devices offer excellent ripple current rating up to 2.28A IRMS and provide low internal resistance for enhanced charge and discharge characteristics.

The capacitors are optimised for power management, battery decoupling, and energy storage in computers, tablets, smartphones, wireless cards, and solid state drives. Offered in the compact J, P, A, B, and T case sizes, the T55 series features a wide capacitance range from 3.3 to 470µF over voltage ratings from 2.5 to 10V, and a capacitance tolerance of ±20%.

The devices provide ultra-low ESR from 500 down to 25mΩ at +25°C and 100kHz and operate over a temperature range of -55 to +105°C with voltage derating above +85°C. Featuring lead-free terminations, T55 series capacitors are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green. The devices are compatible with high-volume automatic pick-and-place equipment and offer a Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) of 3. Samples and production quantities of the enhanced T55 series devices are available now, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
