Carlo Gavazzi has introduced new heavy-duty infrared photo switches designed specifically for door and entrance applications. The IRPHS60 and IRPHS20 switches offer ranges of up to 60m indoors and up to 15 or 40m for outdoor installations.

The transmitter incorporates a double-emitter GaAs diode, which provides a 950nm IR beam modulated at 1.33kHz. Wall-mounted in the same axis as the transmitter, the receiver module has an LED sensor and horizontal adjustment facility, enabling quick and easy alignment to provide a reliable infrared barrier.

Full 90° horizontal adjustment is provided by a rotation support with screw block, ensuring rapid and flexible installation for up-and-over doors, sliding gates and sectional doors. The switches can also be used for security applications, and torque screws are optionally available to prevent external intrusion.

Switching is via a NO/NC changeover relay rated 1A at 24VAC (resistive load). The photo switch can be supplied by AC or DC, 12/24V power, and consumes 110mA at 24VAC (transmitter & receiver).

Both transmitter and receiver units are housed in aluminium enclosures, just 60 x 130 x 52mm in size, protected to IP66 against dust and moisture ingress, and operating over the extended -20 to +60°C temperature range. Sturdy and shock-resistant construction makes them equally suited to industrial, commercial or residential installations, including houses, apartment blocks, offices and retail stores.

These new switches carry all relevant IEC and EN approvals, together with CE marking and certified RoHS compliant.
