Murata has developed a new series of chip ferrite beads, the BLM18KG series, that achieves between 1.5 times and double the rated current of Murata's previous series of chip ferrite beads. The BLM18KG series has also reduced its package size from the typical 0805 size (2.0 x 1.25 mm) to 0603 size (1.6 x 0.8 mm).
The BLM18KG series of ferrite beads are designed for use in power supply noise suppression applications where high currents are experienced. Demand for high current type ferrite beads is expanding, especially for digital A/V equipment, PCs, notebook PCs, HDDs, optical disk drives, etc. It is also suitable for use in car navigation and audio systems.

The series comes in a range of impedance (Z) values: 26, 70, 120, 220, 330, 470 and 600 Ohms at 100MHz. As an example, the 26 Ohm part BLM18KG260 has a DC resistance of 0.007 Ohm max and rated current of 6.0A, double the rated current of the previous Murata parts. The operating temperature range for this series is -55 to 125ºC.
