Murata announces world’s smallest 22µF 25V-rated MLCC

Murata has announced a 2012-size (2.0 x 1.25mm) monolithic ceramic capacitor with a capacitance of 22µF and voltage rating of 25V, the smallest of its kind in the world.

Against the backdrop of such factors as the increasing spread of LED backlights, the demand for monolithic ceramic capacitors with small dimensions and high capacitance levels even under high rated voltages has been on the rise. In response, Murata has successfully used its unique materials technology to engineer increased refinement and crystallisation in its ceramic materials and, by doing so, it has achieved a ceramic capacitor that has approximately double the capacitance compared with existing capacitors (existing maximum capacitance: 10µF) and a size that is about 50% smaller in terms of the mounting area (existing smallest size: 3216). This new capacitor will reduce mounting space and contribute to lower profiles in electronic equipment such as notebook computers, LCD TV panels and LED backlights.

The new capacitor, part number GRM21BR61E226ME44, has nominal capacitance of 22µF and its rated voltage is 25VDC. Its operating temperature range is -55 to +85? and the part has X5R temperature characteristics.
