Vishay has revealed the expansion of its L-NS series of low-ohmic-value, surface-mount thin film chip resistors with new devices in the 0508, 0612, and 1225 case sizes. Featuring reverse geometry wraparound terminals and alumina substrates, the new devices combine low resistance down to 0.03 Ω with improved power handling to 2 W.
With their extremely low resistance values and high power capabilities, the new L-NS resistors released today are ideal for hybrid or surface-mount current sensing applications, where they are used to detect and convert a current to a measured output voltage. Typical end products include battery life indicators, overcurrent protection and supervising circuits, current and voltage regulators, linear switch mode power supplies, medical diagnostic equipment, motor speed controls, and overload protection devices.

Built on a homogeneous nickel-alloy, moisture-resistant film, L-NS resistors offer low noise of < - 30 db and combine an absolute TCR of ± 300 ppm/ºC with tolerances of 20 % from 0.03 Ohm to 0.1 Ohm and 5 % to 1 % for values greater than 0.1 Ohm. The RoHS-compliant devices are sulfur-resistant (per ASTM B809-95 humid vapour test) and available with solderable lead, lead-free, or gold bondable terminations.

With the addition of the reverse geometry wraparound devices, the L-NS series is now available in 13 case sizes ranging from 0505 to 2512.
