Hera door contact switch with green energy harvesting by ZF

Hera door contact switches have now been enabled with green energy harvesting thanks to ZF technology.

Hera has expanded its product lineup to include battery-free and wireless door contact switches, alongside a wall switch that employs the ZigBee protocol for flexible, wire-free control of lighting systems. The wall switch, named Dynamic ZigBee, enables users not just to switch or dim lights but also to adjust the colour settings. This switch, when used with the Hera ZigBee controller and integrated with Amazon Alexa, offers a near-limitless control experience.

These Hera devices harness energy harvesting technology by ZF, generating the necessary power through the mechanical use of the switch. This innovative process produces enough energy to send a RF signal, removing the need for frequent battery replacements and making the switches an ideal retrofit solution.

At the heart of ZF’s energy harvesting innovation lies a highly compact generator, measuring just 20.1 x 7.3 x 14.3 mm. Its diminutive size makes it versatile for a myriad of uses, allowing it to meet diverse customer needs. In addition to the ZigBee protocol used in Hera’s RF solutions, this technology can support other protocols such as KNX-RF, EnOcean, Bluetooth, and bespoke customer-specific protocols.
