Wet tantalum high-energy capacitor withstands high stress and hazardous environments

Vishay have today announced a new wet tantalum high-energy capacitor, HE4. The new HE4 capacitors offer the highest capacitance of any similar device on the market and low maximum ESR down to 0.025 Ohm at +25 °C and 1 kHz. Featuring a unique case design for improved reliability and performance in military and aerospace applications, the HE4 high-energy capacitors are manufactured to withstand high stress and hazardous environments.

The HE4 achieves low ESR thanks to industry-leading anode designs in combination with Vishay’s proven SuperTan hybrid cathode technology. The new capacitor is housed in an all-tantalum, hermetically sealed case featuring a double seal for increased reliability. HE4 is optimised for energy-storage and pulse-power applications.

This new wet tantalum high-energy capacitor combines a robust design with an ultra-high capacitance range from 1100 µF to 72000 µF. This is the highest capacitance per unit volume of any wet tantalum capacitor.

HE4 operates over a temperature range of -55 °C to +85 °C (to +125 °C with voltage derating) and is available in the A, B, and C case codes. Vishay’s new wet tantalum capacitor features a ± 20 % standard capacitance tolerance at 120 Hz and +25 °C, with tolerances of ± 10 % also available.

Samples and production quantities of the new HE4 wet tantalum high-energy capacitor are available now, with lead times of 10 weeks for larger orders.
