Do you have Quality on your Conscience?

A campaign for quality – In times of economic strife and worry, it all too often falls on purchasing teams to cut costs by sourcing cheaper component parts. Is this just a short term saving that will come back to haunt you in the long term? Devlin Electronics believe many of us have more than a few component skeletons in the closet.
To demonstrate this concept we can look at the Devlin US series ultra miniature slide switch. This particular range of switches is extremely high quality with excellent reliability even in challenging environments. This is in part down to expert Japanese manufacture, however with the ever growing power of Chinese manufacturing Devlin have begun to witness “comparable” switches being distributed throughout the UK and Europe.

In the marketplace you will find these Chinese made products a few pence or a few cents cheaper but what are the costs going to be after that initial purchase? When it comes to components, much like those infamous battery operated bunny’s, you want them to run and run and run. The US series has an operating life typically of one hundred thousand operations, due to bifurcated gold plated contacts, superior dust-proofing and excellent resistance to static. Unfortunately the “cheap and cheerful” Chinese switch brands all too often have poorly plated brass contacts, minimal dust-proofing and little or no static resistance.

“Is it really wise to save a penny now and settle for inferior product?” asks Devlin Group managing director, Martin Baker. He continued to say “Devlin always strive for quality, we make superior products available at very competitive prices. We are increasingly being told by customers that the products we can supply offer a level of reliability and piece of mind that cannot be found from other sources. These comments are not isolated to our range of switches we see the same sentiment being echoed in all areas of business from power supplies to keymodules and beyond”

Devlin Electronics make it clear that lowering costs by cutting quality is a false economy. So now the question rests with you: What value will you and your customers place on superior quality?
