Capacitors offer wide capacitance and voltage range

Featuring a capacitance range of 4.7-35µF and a voltage range of 400-1500V, AVX has unveiled the FRC series medium power DC-link film capacitors. The devices are suited for applications such as DC filter circuits, solar inverters, industrial inverters, power converters, UPS systems and motor drives.

The FRC series devices are available with nine voltages in the 400-1500V range, capacitance values of 4.7-35µF, tolerances of ±5 and ±10% and lead lengths of 4 and 8mm. Featuring four snap-in terminals that facilitate easy mounting to PCBs. the capacitor series provide a long lifetime performance of 100,000 hours at rated voltage and 70°C.

Operating over a temperature range from -40 to +105°C, the capacitors are comprised of dry, wound, metallised polypropylene film dielectric. They are housed in a size A, self-extinguishing, cylindrical plastic case sealed with thermosetting resin. The RoHS-compliant series measures 54x36x5.1mm. Unlike aluminium electrolytic capacitors which have a catastrophic failure mode, the polypropylene film capacitors experience a parametric loss of capacitance of approximately 5% from their initial value. This eliminates the risk of a short circuit and enables continued functionality.

The FRC series medium power DC-link film capacitors are available now. Depending on demand, quantity and model chosen, lead time for the series is approximately eight weeks.
