C&K Develops Compact 3- and 5-way Navigation Switch for Consumer Applications

C&K Components, a leading international supplier of tact switches, toggle and rocker switches, and smart card interconnect devices, has developed a new series of 3- and 5-way navigation switches. The switches feature push and rotary functions with 24 detents at 12 pulses in a compact and slim design, freeing up space on the PC board for miniature consumer electronics. Designated the TSW series, the navigation switches offer through-hole termination and are easily installed, making them ideal for remote controls, desk phones, keyboards, printers, entertainment systems and white goods.

“In most consumer electronics, engineers have requested a solution that is both versatile and compact,” said Jerome Smolinski, senior product manager of C&K Components. “The 3- and 5-way navigation switch features both rotary and select functions in one component, providing design engineers with a variety of options. Furthermore, the fully decorated face surface options provide customers with a one-stop solution.”

The TSW A-3N-C LFS 3-way navigation switch features one central select and a 2-way 360º rotation. The maximum operating force is rated at 60g-cm for rotary actuation and 220g to 50g for push actuation. The TSW A-3N-C LFS is packaged in 80 pieces per tray.

The TSW B-3N-C LFS 5-way navigation switch features one central select and a 2-way 360º rotation with additional four tactile directions on the outside ring. This switch also comes with the cosmetic button already assembled. The rotary actuating force is 50g-cm with a maximum push actuating force of 300g. These switches are available in 30 pieces per tray.

The TSW series has an electrical life of 1,000,000 cycles with a maximum contact resistance of 300 mΩ. The switch’s electrical rating is 1mA at 10VDC and operating temperature ranges from -0ºC to +40ºC.
