Campbell Collins – Transient Protection Modules from Gaia for Hi-Rel Applications

Campbell Collins Ltd offers the PGDS-50 and LGDS-300 Transient Protection Modules from Gaia Converter to the UK marketplace. These Hi-Rel Grade Transient Suppression Modules are complementary products to Gaia’s wide range of DC/DC converters and input filters, enabling customers to quickly and elegantly create complete power supply solutions.

The PGDS-50 is a dedicated Pre-Regulator module offering extended operation during voltage drop outs, as well as extensive levels of transient and spike suppression. Operating over a power level of 4-50W, the PGDS-50 will protect against transients of up to 80V for 100ms and 100V for 50ms in accordance with MIL-STD-704A/D/E/F, EN2282, AIR2021E, DO160D categories A, B and Z, and MIL-STD-1275A/B. It also offers full protection against Spikes of up to 600V for 20us as called for in the above specifications.

A unique feature of the PGDS-50 series is an in-built boost function which enables customers’ equipment to operate seamlessly during brown-out conditions as low as 6V during supply voltage drop outs such as during cranking conditions. Housed in a 40mm x 26mm x 7.9mm package, the device has an operational temperature of -40degC to +85degC, and can deliver full output power in natural convection up to 85degC ambient.

For higher power applications, or to feed multiple Gaia DC/DC converters in a Distributed Power Architecture, the LGDS-300 offers a power range of up to 300W. Also offering up to 80V/100ms, 100V/50ms transient suppression, and 600V/20us spike suppression, the LGDS-300 can deliver full power up to 75degC ambient temperature with natural convection. The package size for this increased power level is only marginally larger than the PGDS-50 at 41mm x 27mm x 16.5mm.

Campbell Collins is typically able to supply both devices from stock, along with specialist design support for the complete offering of EMI Input Filters, DC/DC Converters and AC/DC Converters from Gaia.
