AVX gets IRIS Certification for Power Capacitors

AVX Corporation has received certification in accordance with the International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS), covering the design, development and manufacturing of power capacitors. AVX’s metallized film power capacitor plant is based in Saint Apollinaire, France.

IRIS is the quality standard for the railway industry. Developed by UNIFE, the Independent Association of European Railway Industries, and supported by system integrators, equipment manufacturers and operators, IRIS is an internationally recognised standard for the evaluation of railway industry management systems. The certification covers AVX’s entire high-power film capacitor product offering.

“AVX is honored for the recognition of the IRIS approval body. Mass transport is an important business sector for AVX, and our metallized film technology provides significant size and performance benefits,” said Gilles Terzulli, global marketing manager for power film.

Recently, AVX’s Trafim high- energy power film capacitor family played a role in breaking the world-speed record for conventional trains. AVX uses a proprietary, high-reliability, controlled self-healing technology in its Trafim, Disfim™ and Filfim families of environmentally- safe, oil-filled capacitors. Under certain conditions this technology can achieve a specific energy density of 2200 joules per litre.
