Avago Technologies today announced its second series of hermetically sealed 3.3-volt high gain optocouplers for use in aerospace, industrial and military applications. Avago’s ACPL-570xL/573xL/177xL series include single, dual, and quad channel hermetically sealed optocouplers that are capable of operation at temperatures ranging from -55 to +125 degrees C to meet the harsh requirements of aerospace, industrial and military applications. These low-voltage optocouplers are also ideal for microprocessor system interfaces, process control input/output isolation, voltage level shifting, and logic ground isolation. These devices are a follow on to the earlier release of Avago’s ACPL-267xL/268xL/560xL/563xL family of hermetic 3.3-volt logic gate optocouplers.

For designers of applications that operate in harsh environments, the trend is moving towards upgrades and new designs to reduce power consumption that will allow system designers to take advantage of low power components that are now available in the marketplace. Avago’s 3.3V hermetic optocoupler series will help reduce or eliminate the need for extra interface components or voltage converters. Additionally, these low-voltage hermetic optocouplers will help to simplify power supply design, and reduce board space, as well as cost for manufacturers.

Each channel of Avago’s new ACPL-570xL/-573xL/-177xL hermetically sealed optocouplers contains a GaAsP light emitting diode which is optically coupled to an integrated high gain photon detector. In addition, the high gain output stage features open collector output providing both lower saturation voltage and higher signal speed than is possible with conventional photo-Darlington optocouplers. The supply voltage for these new optocouplers from Avago can be operated at as low as 3.0 V without adversely affecting parametric performance.
