Impulse voltage requirements1 are a key specification for power and telecom applications. X1 capacitors possess a 4000V rating, Y2 has 5000V and X2 2500V. The requirements for usage in X and Y configurations cover capacitors rated less than 1.0µF, 250VAC and 60Hz. They are used for filtering EMI/RFI in AC voltage, across-the-line, line-bypass and antenna coupling applications.
SC series capacitors are available with industry-standard NPO and X7R characteristics in 1808 and 1812 case sizes. The NPO devices range in value from 2pF upwards up to 470pF; X7R types start at 150pF and include 1.5nF, depending on the safety rating.
Specific uses include power supplies, computer networks, digital modems, motors, fans, pumps, facsimile, telephones, radios, televisions, power tools and similar appliance circuits where breakdown of the capacitor would result in a risk of fire, electric shock or injury to persons.
