Expanding the low-cost Blackfly GigE Vision PoE product line, Point Grey has announced BFLY-U3-13S2 USB 3.0 cameras. The colour and monochrome models are based on the Sony ICX445, a 1/3" EXview HAD global shutter CCD featuring 3.75µm2 pixels and capable of 1288x964 resolution at 30FPS.

Measuring just 29x29x30mm, the compact Blackfly BFLY-U3-13S2 cameras feature temperature, power and status monitoring, look up table, gamma and USB3 Vision support. They also provide a powerful image processing pipeline for colour interpolation and a 16MB frame buffer for retransmitting images. Utilising a proprietary USB 3.0 link layer and frame buffer-based architecture, Point Grey claim that the Blackfly cameras optimal performance and reliability.

Michael Gibbons, Director of Sales and Marketing, Point Grey, comments: "With the introduction of the compact and low-cost Blackfly USB3 Vision camera line, we provide an easy interface transition to customers. FireWire users will benefit from the widespread availability of USB 3.0 on today's PCs and laptops without having to install additional interface cards, while USB 2.0 users will achieve higher bandwidth and improved reliability. And analog camera users will be motivated by Blackfly's compact form factor and sensor options to make the move to digital."

Supplied with a three year warranty, the BFLY-U3-13S2M (the monochrome model) is available now for a list price of $395 (USD) or €299.
