Philips Lumileds today introduced the LUXEON CoB (Chip-on-Board) portfolio, the first LED array in the industry to combine exceptional beam uniformity with industry-leading efficacy in the smallest light-emitting surface. The LUXEON CoB family can deliver up to 6000 lumens and reaches efficacies of up to 120 lm/W (hot tested) for bright white 80 CRI lights. This makes the LUXEON CoB an ideal choice for high lumen downlights, spotlights and directional lamps. The new LUXEON CoB is being demonstrated this week at the Philips booth at LIGHTFAIR International Tradeshow, April 23-25 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Booth #1401).
Due to its uniform, small light-emitting surface (LES) and world-class efficiency, designers can reduce optical solutions expenses and still achieve higher center-beam candle power (CBCP). In commercial applications such as downlights, uniformity and rotational symmetry are particularly important performance metrics, areas where the LUXEON CoB array excels.

”We engineer our products for optimal light quality and efficacy,” explains Eric Senders, Product Line Director of LUXEON CoB products at Philips Lumileds. “The LUXEON CoB is designed to speed time-to-market of solid-state lighting solutions at a lower overall cost, with a smaller footprint, smaller beam angles and higher CBCP.”

The LUXEON CoB arrays are hot tested and specified at 85°C and utilize a metal-core printed circuit board (MCPCB) solution. This platform enables better reliability, thermal heat dissipation and handling in LED assembly. Offered initially in four versions with an LES of 9, 13 or 15 mm, the LUXEON CoB arrays deliver up to 6000 lm output.
