OSRAM Opto Semiconductors’ MULTILED offers homogeneous display results for the video display market

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has introduced a new MULTILED product, the LRTB GFTM, specifically developed for the video display market. The new MultiLED provides homogeneous display results and high color fidelity across the entire viewing angle required by the video display market while its black surface enables very good contrast in both indoor and outdoor environment.

Being a further extension of the black product series of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, the new MULTILED provides excellent contrast and impressive depth of color. “And because the RGB chips in the MULTILED series are arranged in straight line, the displays look the same no matter from which angle they are viewed,” said KC Cheng, Marketing Director of Asia Pacific at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Asia Ltd. “This high homogeneity makes this product ideal for video walls and displays.“

Homogeneous display results are also achieved by using the latest high-power Thinfilm and ThinGaN technologies. By supplying in very narrow distributions in terms of brightness and color location, the display colors remain constant from all viewing angles.

In addition, the new MULTILED provides value for money, especially for the volume markets in Asia. According to Strategies Unlimited 2009, large full-color signs application accounted for 9.3% of the high brightness LED market in 2008. And according to iSuppli, China and Asia-Pacific will become the biggest signage and professional display markets by 2011.

LED benefits have accelerated the adoption of LED displays – the light sources contain no lead or mercury and offer much longer life time with less maintenance. Like other members of the MULTILED family, this LED enables reduced maintenance cost as its 6-lead package delivers improved thermal management and increased reliability.
