Designed for use in motor control and power inverter applications, the ACPL-336J and ACPL-337J optocouplers have been announced by Avago. Avago claim that the highly-integrated smart gate drive optocoupler devices reduce system costs and board space, whilst improving overall power efficiency and reliability.

The ACPL-336J and ACPL-337J have a 2.5A and a 4A rail-to-rail output, respectively, capable of driving high power MOSFET or IGBT directly. The devices feature rail-to-rail output with high current, integrated LED driver, active Miller clamp, high DESAT blanking current source, and Under Voltage Lock-Out feedback control circuit, providing a complete cost-effective gate drive solution for motor control and power inverter applications.

Additional featurtes include a high reinforced insulation voltage of VIORM=1414VPEAK for reliable fail-safe protection in high voltage applications, and a wide creepage and clearance of 8.3 mm meeting stringent system level safety regulation. Furthermore, the devices feature a 50kV/µs typical high CMR which prevents erroneous drive in noisy environment.

“With increased complexity in gate drive design to meet high power and efficiency requirements of modern applications, customers who have been using Avago’s market-proven HCPL-316J device have demanded a higher level of on-chip integration of key gate drive functional blocks,” commented Kheng-Jam Lee, marketing director of Avago’s Isolation Products Division. “The new APCL-336J and ACPL-337J devices not only reduce the number of external components needed for gate driving, but also set a new standard for compact gate drive optocoupler solutions for motor drives and inverters.”

CSA, UL and IECapproved, the devices are available now.
