With the introduction of the SFH 4715AS and the SFH 4716AS infrared LEDs, Osram Opto Semiconductors has increased the output of its IR Oslon Black family for the second time in six months. This has been achieved by combining the latest chip design with an optimised package and Nanostack technology, in which each chip has two emission centres.

Depending on the type of external optics and the particular application, the diodes can provide illumination over a distance of more than 100 meters, making them particularly suitable for camera-based applications.

Providing a high optical output of 1.37W at 1A, the SFH 4715AS and the SFH 4716AS are Osram’s most powerful infrared LEDs yet. The use of the latest generation of chips, an optimised package design and Nanostack technology has enabled the increase in output, which is 70% higher than the company’s standard infrared LEDs.

These diodes are particularly suitable for surveillance cameras. Depending on the type of camera and the number of integrated infrared LEDs, distances of more than 100 meters can be illuminated with infrared light. In addition to surveillance cameras, the SFH 4715AS and the SFH 4716AS are also suitable for many other industrial camera-based applications including 3D process control cameras.

The package dimensions of the Oslon Black Stack components remains unchanged at 3.85x3.85x2.29mm or 1.51mm. There is also still a choice between beam angles of 90 and 150, providing for drop-in replacement.
