HIKMICRO multi-functional thermovision and acoustic cameras make for safe diagnostics for electronics and industrial systems.

Thermovision makes it possible to easily determine the temperature of objects, which makes it a popular and irreplaceable diagnostic tool. New devices have been developed among cameras of this type, combining digital photographic image sensors with precise acoustic sensors.

The capability of digital imaging has brought about enormous innovations with respect to the diagnostics of electronic and electrical circuits as well as industrial installations. Cameras registering infrared radiation contain precisely calibrated transducers, thanks to which one can literally see the temperature of observed objects. Such products include the HIKMICRO, products presented below, a brand specialising in the production of advanced thermovision devices. The manufacturer's portfolio also includes acoustic cameras, which serve for rapid localisation of sound sources. These solutions are already available in the TME catalogue.

The HM-B1L/9HZ thermovision camera

HIKMICRO thermovision cameras are designed as universal devices adapted to a series of applications – from laboratory work to inspections of expansive installations in the field. They have a sensitive image sensor with a resolution of 160x120 points, which, through detection and measurement of infrared radiation, precisely images the temperature of objects within the range from -20°C to 550°C. Measurements taken are presented on a built-in display (3.2 inch) diagonal with 9Hz frequency). Since the device also detects light in the visible spectrum, the user may take advantage of the hybrid imaging function, i.e. the combination of an ordinary image with a so-called heat map illustrating data about the temperature of visible people, objects, surfaces, etc. This functionality makes it possible to investigate the thermal properties of relatively large areas, making it ideal quickly and accurately (±2°C) for inspections of industrial installations, in gas, power and electrical engineering, testing of HVAC systems, automotive diagnostics, as well as in the design and maintenance of electronic circuits and building diagnostics.

The HM-B1L/9HZ thermovision camera is equipped with a Li-Ion battery and USB C port, which serves, among other things, for charging the device (for up to 8h of wireless operation). What is more, the product has a WiFi module allowing for transmission of the image from the sensor to the screen of a smartphone or tablet. Detailed data, in JPEG file format, can be saved in the camera’s internal memory. Its functionality encompasses a series of simple, useful functions, e.g. acoustic and optical alarm activated after detection of temperature exceeding set values, automatic identification of points with the lowest/highest temperature, etc. To prevent damage during work in the field, HIKMICRO has made sure to protect the device properly, enclosing it in a housing with an IP54 protection rating (high resistance to particulates and splash-tightness).

Inspection of electronic circuits

Detailed temperature imaging and measurement are an excellent aid when analysing work and diagnosing defects of electronic circuits. Overheating is a symptom of damage or overloading of most electronic components and systems, e.g. voltage stabilisers, drivers, microcontrollers, processors (and of course, resistors and capacitors). By identifying an element whose temperature exceeds tolerable values, the technician gains knowledge about the most probable causes of failure. Detailed temperature testing of PCBs also makes it possible to design more efficient circuits, perform stress tests, as well as to develop optimal heat lead-off from devices.

To enable thermal imaging of small surfaces and objects, HIKMICRO has prepared two important accessories compatible with the HM-B1L/9HZ camera. The first is a macro-lens enabling the achievement of a sharp image even when the device is placed at a distance of 30 mm from the observed surface. Thanks to it, objects with sizes of 0.5x0.5mm will be very well visible – even small SMD components. Installation of the macro-lens is very simple and done by sliding it onto the camera’s body, where it is immobilised by latches. Another important addition is a tripod allowing for taking stable images. Since the brand’s products apply standard photographic threads measured in inches (UNC 1/4"-20), the camera can easily be mounted on any tripod – however, the HM-BRACKET arm from HIKMICRO has several exceptional features. It can be mounted on the edge of a tabletop or seatpost, and it is clamped by means of a screw, which enables stable fastening. Moreover: the tripod’s joint, situated near the clamp, is spherical so as to facilitate the positioning of the camera at the desired angle.

Acoustic camera HM-AP56-W/W-AI56

The HIKMICRO acoustic camera is a novelty on the market. The device features a standard photosensitive image sensor, as well as a sensor “composed” of 64 precise, directional microphones made using MEMS technology (micro-electromechanical systems). On the large, 4.3-inch colour display, the user sees not only the photographic image but also indications of the sources of sound waves with frequencies ranging from 2kHz to 65kHz. In this way, the user can identify the sources of sound without difficulty, from a substantial distance (up to 100m). Such a capability allows for the safe work of technicians working in such fields as power engineering, pneumatics, hydraulics and gas engineering. Using the HM-AP56-W/W-AI56 model, locating leaks or discharges takes literally several seconds – and since the camera is a battery-powered device (up to 3.5h) distinguished by a lightweight (under 1kg with batteries), broad thermal tolerance (operation at temperatures from -20°C to 50°C), it is perfectly suited to the needs of professionals working in the field.

The acoustic camera does not differ in shape from ergonomic thermovision models.

It should be emphasised that the manufacturer has made sure to equip the camera with high-quality components as well as a series of useful functions. The installed display has a touch screen, facilitating configuration, and displays an image refreshed at 25Hz. The user can zoom in (digital zoom) up to 8 times magnification. The observed image may be saved on an SD card. A 64GB capacity allows for recording up to 60h of video material or 20000 graphical files. In addition, every photograph may have an attached text note (200 characters) and voice recording (up to 60 seconds), which speeds up work and compilation of documentation. These tasks are additionally facilitated by such options as leading the camera’s signal to an external screen (HDMI interface) and selecting of the mode of visualising acoustic conditions.
