Hirose Electric has developed a fibre optic cabling value-added reseller programme to complement its extensive line of ruggedised connectors and deliver complete fibre optic solutions for a wide range of commercial, datacomms/networking, medical, military/aerospace, surveillance and telecomms applications.

Through partnerships with Timbercon and Atlantic Teleconnect (ATI), Hirose now offers custom and standard cable assemblies that utilise its wide selection of industry-standard and custom fibre optic connectors. Timbercon, located in Tualatin, Oregon, has more than 15 years of fibre optic product development and manufacturing experience. Timbercon fibre optic cables are designed to allow a high degree of flexibility and customisation.

By providing virtually unlimited options, customers receive a product designed for their specific application. Hirose offers a wide selection of rugged fibre optic interconnects with screw, push-on, or bayonet locking shells and a number of mounting options.

Hirose’s product offering includes: the SW20 series, IP67-rated waterproof duplex connector that combines a standard optical connector with an optical adaptor; the MF10B series, subminiature, waterproof duplex connector that utilises a 1.25mm diameter MU ferrule integrated into an internal housing and shell; and the MF10S series, IP67-rated waterproof duplex connector.

The MF13 series, subminiature hybrid connector that combines fibre optic and electric connection in one connector. The IP67-rated connector offers three electrical contacts rated at 1.5A max current at 85ºC and two single or multi-mode fibre optic connections, are also products that Hirose is offering.

"The fibre optic VAR program can accommodate our wide range of shell mating types, fibre optic ferrule variations, and hybrid optical/electric connectors," said Rick van Weezel, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, Hirose Electric USA. "We can now offer customers a more simplified process to meet their fibre optic cabling needs, tailored to their application demands."
