A starter kit that enables engineers to develop powerful LED lighting systems for plant growth, the Petunia Development Kit, has been introduced by Intelligent LED Solutions (ILS). A key feature of this package is the use of high power LEDs to generate three specific colours to produce the perfect spectrums for plant production.

Adrian Amor, Director, ILS, commented: "We are seeing a clear trend in the use of LED lighting for assisting plant growth. LEDs offer better efficiency, more control and often a more compact design; and with recent development in the areas of wavelength and power, we are now seeing plant growth lighting as an important market sector."

A key part of the development kit is a PCB with 12 LEDs: six Warm White 150°, five Hyper RED 80° and one Deep Blue 80°. Additional components include a specially developed lens, a power supply, a heat sink and a fixing kit. The Petunia LED light sources are built on aluminium substrates for optimal thermal management. With a low thermal resistance of 7K/W the Petunia runs cool and offers a highly efficient product.

"The Petunia kit will offer engineers an important introduction to LED lighting for plant growth. Our in house technical support and engineering team is also available for customers that require specialist development or bespoke solutions. We have gained a lot of experience in the field of plant growth over recent years," added Amor.
