With the capability to upscale and downscale between SD (480i), ED (480p), HD (720p, 1080i and 1080p), and UHD (2160p) video formats, the UHD NatureVue ADV8005 video signal processor supports multiple screen resolutions across two simultaneous video streams. Introduced by Analog Devices, the processor suits applications including A/V receivers, HDMI splitters, commercial video distribution systems and digital signage.

Accepting On-Screen Display (OSD) information from an external source, such as a GPU, the video signal processor can also internally generate a bitmap-based OSD which enables designers to easily incorporate features such as scrolling text and animation in up to 24-bit true colour. The ADV8005 can be configured in several different modes, including single and dual-channel video processing, thanks to the flexible digital core. The processor features two on-chip HDMI transmitters that support the UHD video format, six 12-bit video DACs that support SD and HD video outputs, as well as all mandatory and many optional 3D video resolutions.

Easing video signal synchronisation, the ADV8005 is able to synchronise multi output video streams from individual ADV8005 video signal processors to externally supplied reference sync signals. Featuring a full Consumer Electronics Control master and audio return channel receiver, the processor can receive up to six channels of I2S, S/PDIF, direct stream digital, and high-bit-rate audio.

ADI’s Blimp OSD development tool has also been introduced to aid designers in the design, debug and emulation prior to OSD integration with the system application. With a completed design, the development tool can automatically generate code to be integrated with the system application. It also generates an OSD design resource which can be loaded in an external SPI flash memory. The ADV8005 video signal processor is ideally suited for use with the ADV7625 HDMI transceivers, also introduced by ADI.

Sampling now, the ADV8005 video signal processor is supplied in a 19x19mm 425-ball CSP-BGA package. Pricing starts from $36.15 (USD) each in 1,000 unit quantities.
