High-Accuracy DAC for Industrial Process Control and Test Equipment from TI

Texas Instruments has introduced a 16-bit, single-channel, buffered voltage-output digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with excellent linearity (1 LSB max INL), low noise (24 nV/rtHz) and fast settling time (5.0 uS). Combined with low-power consumption (5mW), the DAC8881 is an attractive option for industrial process control, automatic test equipment, data acquisition systems and communications applications.

The DAC8881 operates from a single +2.7V to +5.5V power supply and provides a unipolar output. The output voltage is based on the reference voltage selected and ranges from 1.25V to 5.5V thereby allowing for use in many different applications. By using an external operational amplifier for offset, the device can also provide a bipolar output with two’s complement coding.

The DAC8881 supports a flexible SPI serial interface capable of input data clock frequencies up to 50MHz with 1.8V/3V/5V compatible logic which enables communications with a wide range of DSPs, FPGAs and microprocessors. The device operates over an extended temperature range of -40C to 105C.
