Toshiba’s entry-level, low-power ARM9 microcontroller

Toshiba Electronics Europe has added an entry-level device to its family of scalable, low-power ARM-based microcontrollers. The new TMPA913CHAXBG provides a cost-effective and low component count solution for industrial designs requiring high-speed USB connectivity and external memory management.

Based on the 32-bit ARM926EJ-S core, the TMPA913CHAXBG offers pin and software compatibility with other members of the family. This protects investment by supporting upgrades to higher end devices as necessary with minimum system redesign.

The new TMPA913CHAXBG combines the low-power, 32-bit ARM926EJ-S core running at 150MHz or 200MHz with 16Kbytes of embedded RAM for program, data and display memory. A memory controller supports SDR and DDR SDRAM and up to 2.5Gbytes of linear access space can be addressed. As well as the high-speed USB device (480Mbps), connectivity options include SPI, UART, I2C and I2S. Additional built-in peripherals include a 10-bit ADC, a six-channel, 16-bit timer, a watchdog timer, real time clock and alarm functionality.

Supplied in a 361-pin FPGA package the TMPA913CHAXBG will operate at temperatures of -20°C to +85°C, making it ideal for industrial environments. In addition to extensive software support that includes graphics libraries and embedded operating systems, the new device is supported through the availability of a Starter Kit and Reference Platform that further speed application development and prototyping.
