The STM32F7 series of very high performance MCUs with ARM Cortex-M7 core from ST Microelectronics is now available at distributor Rutronik with a starter kit and two evaluation boards. With ST’s ART Accelerator and an L1 cache, the STM32F7 MCUs deliver the full performance of the ARM Cortex-M7 core with code executed from either embedded Flash memory or an external memory.

It reaches 1082 CoreMark at 216MHz. The devices feature up to 1MB of Flash memory and 320KB of SRAM, Chrom-ART Accelerator and LCD-TFT controller, audio support with I2S, SAI and SPDIF interfaces, dedicated PLLS as well as rich connectivity with USB, CAN, Ethernet, Quad-SPI, FMC, I2C, SPI and ISART/UART interfaces.

The MCU is pin-to-pin and code compatible with the STM32F4 and delivers up to twice as much DSP performance. The STM32F7 MCUs are available in two product lines. The STM32F746/756 line comes equipped with a TFT controller. Additionally, STM32F756 devices come with a crypto/hash processor providing hardware acceleration for AES-128, -192 and -256 encryption with support for GCM and CCM, Triple DES, and hash (MD5, SHA-1 and SHA-2) functions. The series can be ordered at distributor Rutronik in seven different packages with 100 to 216 pins and as small as 4.5 x 5.5mm in WLCSP.

The Discovery kit for the MCUs comes with a 4.3in WQVGA colour LCD with touchscreen, MEMs microphones, 128-Mbit Quad-SPI Flash memory interface, 128-Mbit SDRAM, a micro SD card socket, Ethernet and USB OTG HS connector, SPDIF input, audio line-in and line-out jacks, stereo speaker outputs and a camera connector. It is also supported by mbed and it is the first Discovery kit allowing for easy extension through Arduino Uno connector. It is the ideal platform for developing applications ranging from personal devices to industrial or consumer gateways.

The evaluation boards of STM32F7 are packed with features and peripheral functions of the STM32F7 MCU are made available with corresponding external devices or connectors. This includes the luxury 5.7” touchscreen, 32-Mbyte SRDRAM, the camera module and the RTC with backup battery. Two versions are available at Rutronik: the STM32746G-EVAL2 and the STM32756G-EVAL2 with hardware cryptography acceleration.

The STM32F7 series is supported by STM32CubeF7. It contains peripheral drivers and a consistent set of middleware libraries including USB, graphics, RTOS, touch sensing and TCP/IP. The PC-based STM32CubeMX software tool helps to configure the STM32F7 and its embedded software, solve conflicts and generate initialization code.
