Microcontroller Offers Performance and Flexibility For Price Sensitive Industrial Applications

CML Microsystems has unveiled a new RISC/DSP Microcontroller product from its specialist semiconductor and microprocessor daughter-company, Hyperstone. The new E2 is a high-performance, RoHS compliant 32-Bit RISC/DSP microcontroller, with advanced features such as a programmable serial communications engine, ADC unit, 32kb of on-chip I-RAM, complemented with an external memory and peripheral interface controller.

Targeted at global industrial sensing and control applications, consumer applications, metering, scanning EPOS and other cost-sensitive applications, the E2 is a very cost-effective 32-Bit RISC/DSP microcontroller solution. The product offers industry-leading performance (640MOPS/160MHz Peak) and superb industrial reliability, with price/performance making the E2 a particularly attractive solution for anybody wishing to move from an 8-bit microcontroller to the performance and design benefits of 32-bit architecture.

Additionally, Hyperstone offers global technical design support and a development kit for the E2, to ensure ease of migration to the E2 and fast time-to-market. The development kit includes a populated board, software development tools (IDE), C/C++ compiler, linker, assembler, source-level debugger with profiler, runtime kernel and DSP library.

Key features include: 32-bit unified RISC and DSP processor architecture, dynamic frequency scaling, power-down and sleep modes, low power consumption (200mW typical), very high code density, programmable 8-channel serial communications engine, 10-Bit 8-Channel multiplexed A/D converter (sample rate 182kHz), versatile 2-channel DMA and a real-time clock.
