ADLINK Technology has introduced the cPCI-6630 6U CompactPCI, the world’s first CompactPCI blade with the 6th generation Intel Core i7 processor in a 6U form factor on the embedded market. ADLINK’s latest addition to its value line of processor blades also features support for legacy IO, including VGA, PMC, CompactFlash, USB 2.0 and PS/2 keyboard/mouse; and support for QNX 6.5/6.6 and Linux legacy OSes for easy integration.

The cPCI-6630 is ideal for factory and industrial automation or security communication systems that need cost-efficient performance. “ADLINK’s cPCI-6630 gives customers access to the best value in a 6U CompactPCI processor blade with 6th generation technology from Intel. The cPCI-6630 provides a seamless upgrade replacement for the cPCI-6965 and offers a 10% performance boost compared to previous generation cPCI-6530BL” says Yong Luo, head of ADLINK’s Networking, Communications, and Public Sector business unit.

The cPCI-6630 integrates the quad-core 2.8GHz Intel Core i7-6820EQ processor and Mobile Intel HM170 chipset, with up to 32GB of dual-channel DDR4 SO-DIMM 2133 non-ECC memory.

The cPCI-6630 supports a 64-bit/66MHz CompactPCI bus with universal VIO and host/satellite modes which allows operation in system slots and as well as in the peripheral slots without connection to the PCI bus.

Storage options include space for an onboard 2.5” SATA 6Gb/s drive, CFast slot with (or optional CompactFlash), and one onboard SATA 7-pin header. Up to three SATA 3Gb/s ports routed to rear round out the ample storage options.

With Intel Virtualisation Technology for Direct I/O, the cPCI-6630 offers the latest support for device virtualisation with improved security and reliability and better I/O performance. The cPCI-6630 supports up to three Gigabit Ethernet port on the front panel with the option to reroute Ethernet signals for PICMG 2.16 compatibility.

The cPCI-6630 supports the most versatile graphics output among its competitors with three independent displays in parallel. HD Graphics 530 is integrated in the processor and supports both DVI-I and DVI-D ports on the front panel, with additional display signals routed to rear IO. Video processing support includes DirectX 12 and OpenGL 4.4 for 3D hardware acceleration and H.265 hardware decode/encode.

Expansion and connectivity options include a 32-bit/33MHz PMC on the dual slot version. The cPCI-6630 supports PICMG standards for cPCI (Rev. 3.0), Hot Swap (Rev. 2.0), and Packet Switching Backplane (Rev. 1.0).

Powered by a single 5V rail, cPCI-6630 boasts a maximum TDP of 72.9W for the Intel Core i7-6820EQ (under Windows 7). Management of power consumption and other performance indicators is available through ADLINK’s Smart Embedded Management Agent (SEMA).

Support for the 7th Generation Intel Core i7 processor is expected in Q3 2017, with the same features support as the current version.
