Toshiba Announces Retail Availability of World’s Fastest SD Format Memory Card

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has announced that the first shipments of the world’s fastest SD format memory card to the retail channel will begin in May 2010 in Europe. The 64GByte SDXC (eXtra Capacity) product is ideal for use with Net PCs and offers high-speed read and write rates of up to 60Mbytes per second and 35Mbytes per second respectively.

Toshiba’s 64GByte SDXC card provides portable memory for applications where the rapid transfer of high data volumes is critical. These include high-speed continuous shooting with digital still cameras and high resolution video recording with digital camcorders. Using the card users could, for example, download 2.4GBytes of video data in as little as 70 seconds.

The new SDXC card is the first product to be compliant with UHS104, the ultra high-speed interface capable of handling data rates as high as 104Mbytes per second. UHS104 is the highest standard in the SD Association’s Memory card Standard Ver. 3.00. Toshiba uses its new Premiugate trade mark logo on the SDXC card to reflect this fact.

As with other products in Toshiba’s extensive memory range, the SDXC card is supplied in environmentally friendly paperboard packaging. This packaging reduces plastic content by up to 60% when compared with conventional blister packs. In addition, the paperboard-based packages are also slimmer and lighter than the more traditional pack helping to deliver efficiency and cost savings in terms of storage and shipping.
