With the advent of 5G and the exponential growth of connected devices and edge computing, more data is being generated and processed at the edge. By the edge we mean it is the practice of processing data near the edge of the network where the data is being generated, instead of in a centralised data processing warehouse.

Edge computing enables data stream acceleration, including real-time data processing without latency. It allows smart applications and devices to respond to data almost instantaneously as it’s being created, eliminating lag time. This is critical for technologies such as self-driving cars and has equally important benefits for business.

Computing at the egde allows for efficient data processing in that large amounts of data can be processed near the source, reducing Internet bandwidth usage. This both eliminates costs and ensures that applications can be used effectively in remote locations. In addition, the ability to process data without ever putting it into a public cloud adds a useful layer of security for sensitive data. This all sounds great but to get applications to work efficiently the right memory and storage hardware needs to be up to the task.

To help businesses keep up with this massive quantity of data and to capitalise on the vast business opportunities it brings, Taiwanese module manufacturer Innodisk, has unveiled top-of-the-line memory solutions optimised specifically for edge computing.

Memory optimised for demanding edge computing

Edge solutions require high-performance memory modules optimised for processing enormous amounts of data at a blistering pace. To help businesses address this requirement, Innodisk is introducing a comprehensive range of DDR4-3200 modules available in various form factors and capacities which are perfect for edge computing.

Innodisk’s DDR4-3200 series is available in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacities across SODIMM, UDIMM, and RDIMM  including optional ECC modules. Fortified by Innodisk’s signature rugged technologies, which include; side fill, conformal coating, anti sulfuration and low power consumption (which is critical for remote devices) the DDR4-3200 DRAM modules are ready and available for the toughest edge computing applications.

An unstoppable trend

Gartner predicts that enterprise-generated data created and processed outside centralised data centres will reach 75 percent by 2025, up from 10 percent in 2018. With effective data processing a cornerstone of trends such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G networking, it marks a critical investment for businesses across all industries that want to fully capitalise on the massive business opportunities that these trends present. So, investing in the right memory now is critical to ensure that future demands are met.
