The STM32WB5MMG ultra-low-power and small form factor certified 2.4GHz wireless module from STMicroelectronics supports Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0, Zigbee 3.0, OpenThread, dynamic and static concurrent modes, and 802.15.4 proprietary protocols.

It is available from distributor Anglia Components.

Based on STMicroelectronics STM32WB55VGY wireless microcontroller, the STM32WB5MMG provides what is claimed to be best in class RF performance thanks to its good receiver sensitivity and a high output power signal.

The modules low-power features enable extended battery life time and can be powered from small coin-cell batteries or using energy harvesting such as solar modules and cells.

A benefit of the STM32WB5MMG module is it requires no RF expertise so can greatly speed-up development time, reduce associated costs and get product to market faster.

The design and small footprint of the module allows developers to create simplified, low-cost PCBs leveraging the module’s optimised pin-out and can take advantage of existing STM32WB55 MCU firmware libraries, toolchain and ecosystem.

In addition, STMicroelectronics has created a dedicated detailed application note as extra guidance for module users.

The STM32WB5MMG module integrates a miniature antenna that has been properly matched to the receiver circuitry, built-in Switched-Mode Power Supply (SMPS) circuitry, and frequency-control components.

Furthermore the module includes support for crystal-less USB Full-Speed connectivity allowing users to minimise bill-of-materials costs as well as simplifying the hardware design.

Users are also able to leverage the MCU’s dual-core architecture that separates radio and application-level processing for unimpeded performance, large memories for radio and application code and data storage, and state-of-the-art cybersecurity.

To further add convenience, the module is completely protocol stack royalty-free lowering implementation costs and the modules have been certified for a wide geographical area, this means the module can address market opportunities at all levels, including cost-sensitive and highly miniaturised devices.

The wireless module from STMicroelectronics is available from Anglia Components in the UK and Ireland.
