Kerlink, a specialist in solutions dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT), is helping to take the IoT to the high country with a LoRaWAN network deployed at La Clusaz, one of the most popular ski resorts in the French Alps.

Installed with Kerlink’s longtime partner, Adeunis, the network is powered by Kerlink’s Wirnet Station, a robust, high-performance and highly reliable outdoor LoRaWAN gateway for smart public and private IoT networks.

The network will be used to help resort managers implement a variety of smart-facility programs such as ski lift operation, monitoring refrigeration systems in mountain restaurants during the off-season, and managing occupancy in cabins to optimise the resort’s emergency-response plans.

In addition to improving operational efficiency, these steps will boost resort-staff reactivity to visitors’ needs and assure visitors and skiers of a safe and satisfying experience.

By delivering these operational and efficiency features, the network also will support the resort’s goals of reducing maintenance costs and complying with health and safety regulations.

“Kerlink’s Wirnet Stations, and its successor, the Winet iStation, which are simple to install and flexible for operators to use, are ensuring IoT network performance and robustness in a broad diversity of demanding environments, including a desert in the Middle East, the monsoon climate in India, and on the side of Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano,” said Stéphane Dejean, Kerlink CMO. “At La Clusaz, our industry-leading gateway technology will enable this mountain resort to increase efficiency and visitor safety whatever the conditions outside may deliver.”

With 20 years of experience in designing and providing wireless communications systems, Adeunis specialises in smart-industry, smart-building and smart-city solutions for the Internet of Things. The La Clusaz network also is supported by API-k Telecommunications, a French company dedicated to helping customers capitalise on the benefits of LoRa networks.

LoRa Alliance and LoRaWAN are marks used under license from the LoRa Alliance.
