Transmitting a unique identifier and associated RH (Relative Humidity) and temperature measurement data to a commercial EPC C1G2 reader, Farsens has announced the Hygro-Fenix-H221 RFID sensor tag. Without requiring a battery or wiring on the sensor tag, the device offers temperature with an accuracy of ±1°C in the range of 0 to +60°C.

Available in a variety of antenna designs and sizes for applications in the 860-960MHz band, the device integrates an HTS-221 humidity sensor from ST Microelectronics with a measurement range of 20-80% RH with an accuracy of ±4.5% RH. It is suitable for embedding in a wide variety of materials such as plastics or concrete and can also be encapsulated in an IP67 or IP68 casing for usage in harsh environments.

With a reading distance of around 1.5m (5ft), the HygroFenix enables opportunities monitoring relative humidity and temperature in applications where the accessibility is restricted, or where the use of batteries is not recommended. Such applications include data centre infrastructure management (room humidity and temperature to enhance asset life-cycle).
