Pentek Introduces High-Speed Clock Generator for Cobalt Virtex-6 and Onyx Virtex-7 FPGA Board Families

Pentek today announced the Model 7194 high speed clock generator in a PMC/XMC form factor. The Model 7194 provides fixed frequency sample clocks to up to four Pentek analog-to-digital Cobalt and Onyx modules in multi-board systems.

It enables synchronous sampling, playback and timing for a wide range of multichannel, high-speed data acquisition and software radio applications.

“We developed this product for system integrators looking for a space-effective and cost-efficient clock generator for our Cobalt and Onyx modules,” stated Rodger Hosking, vice president of Pentek. “Our extensive experience in guiding customers through sophisticated system designs led us to develop this module that eliminates the need for large and expensive frequency synthesizers.”

As a standard PMC/XMC form factor module, the Model 7194 uses PMC P14 or XMC P15 connectors solely for power and can be mounted in any PMC or XMC site. The optional PCIe style 6-pin power connector allows it to be powered without a PMC/XMC site and can be used in virtually any chassis or enclosure. Carriers adapt the Model 7194 for PCIe, AMC, CompactPCI, VME and VPX. The board requires no programming.

Delivering clock frequencies up to 2 GHz, the Model 7194 is an ideal companion clock generator to the following high-speed products and their commercial-off-the-shelf and rugged PCIe, AMC, Compact PCI, VME and VPX derivatives

Onyx Virtex-7 FPGA Models:

71740 (1-Channel 3.6 GHz or 2-Channel 1.8 GHz 12-bit A/D XMC module)

71741 (1-Channel 3.6 GHz or 2-Channel 1.8 GHz 12-bit A/D with DDC XMC module)

Cobalt Virtex-6 FPGA Models:

71640 (1-Channel 3.6 GHz or 2-Channel 1.8 GHz 12-bit A/D XMC module)

71641 (1-Channel 3.6 GHz or 2-Channel 1.8 GHz 12-bit A/D with DDC XMC module)

“Our engineers needed a compact, high-precision clock generator for a new wideband recorder we were deploying,” stated Chris Tojeira, director, Talon Recording Systems Group. “We easily integrated the Model 7194 module into our instrument and it fit the bill perfectly.”

Pricing and Availability

The Model 7194 starting price is $1,995 USD. Delivery is 8-10 weeks ARO. Options exist for power connection and sample clock rate.
