Semtech's LoRa (Long Range) RF technology has been selected by AREVA (Paris) for it's next-gen wireless smart sensor communication platforms. AREVA has finalised the development of its next-gen wireless solutions dedicated to site management and asset tracking applications using smart sensors that provide geolocalisation of equipment in complex industrial environments.

Increasing complexity and security concerns are leading to an ever-increasing number of sensors in industrial facilities. Wiring new sites or retrofitting existing sites is not an option, in many cases, due to installation costs and extended operation down time. Connecting sensors and valves wirelessly reduces both the cost and down time and is the way to go for next-gen industrial wireless monitoring.

With the LoRa-based solution, AREVA will be in a position to provide customers with solutions to manage sites in both normal and critical operations with high performance and security.

LoRa long-range technology from Semtech enables a large number of sensor network applications ranging from wireless process control, sensor communication and asset tracking with a noninvasive and small size infrastructure. LoRa technology also provides IoT network access to devices allowing onsite and, if required, off-site communication as well as redundancies.

"AREVA’s smart sensor solution is a real technological breakthrough in the field of wireless data transmission. It will transform and simplify the management of industrial sites by providing information in real-time to give operators a comprehensive vision of their assets," said Jean-Reynald Macé, R&D Manager, AREVA.
