Digital isolators offer signalling rate up to 100Mbps

The ISO7820 and ISO7820F dual-channel digital isolators from Texas Instruments are now being shipped by distributor Mouser Electronics. Engineered as high-performance, dual-channel digital isolators with 8,000 VPK of isolation voltage and a signaling rate of up to 100 Mbps, the isolators feature high electromagnetic immunity with low emissions at lower power-consumption levels, while isolating CMOS or LVCMOS digital I/Os.

When used in conjunction with isolated power supplies, these devices prevent noise currents on a data bus or other circuits from entering the local ground and interfering with or damaging sensitive circuitry.        

The isolators provide two forward channels and no reverse-direction channel. Each isolation channel has a logic input and output buffer separated by a silicon dioxide (Si02) insulation barrier.

These low power consumption devices are rated at 1.7mA (typical) per channel at 1Mbps, and offer a low propagation delay of 11ns (typical for 5V supplies). Maximum operating temperature for the devices is rated from -55 degrees Celsius to 125 degrees Celsius.

Other features of the devices include an industry-leading CMTI of ±100 kV/μs, a wide supply voltage range of 2.25V to 5.5V, a signaling rate of up to 100Mbps and an isolation barrier life of greater than 25 years.      

The devices are backed by reinforced isolation certifications according to VDE, CSA and CQC. The advanced design and layout of the ISO7820/ISO7820F devices also help ease system-level electrostatic discharge (ESD), electric fast transient (EFT), surge, and emissions compliance.

The ISO7820/ISO7820F devices are available through Mouser Electronics in a wide-body (DW), 16-pin SOIC package, in both high (ISO7820) and low (ISO7820F) default output options. The devices are suitable for a variety of applications including industrial automation, motor control, power supplies, solar inverters, medical equipment and hybrid electric vehicles.
