Clock generators exceed PCIe Gen1, Gen2, & Gen3 requirements

Providing low phase noise for PCIe reference clock signals, the PL6020xxx and PL6070xxx clock generators complement Micrel's exisiting line of clock generators and clock distribution products. The two generators have been launched along with the SY7557xL clock distribution family, with Micrel claiming industry leading output-to-output skew. The new additions to Micrel's product portfolio exceed the requirements of the current PCIe Gen1, Gen2, and Gen3 standards and supports SST for EMI reduction.

Featuring 1, 2, 4, or 8 outputs with sub-200fs phase jitter and output-to-output skew of 50ps., the Spread Spectrum Technology in the PL6070xxx is supported for EMI reduction. The clock synthesizers accept a fundamental crystal or reference input of 25MHz and produce output frequencies ranging from 25MHz to 200MHz with 100MHz phase noise performance of -135 dBc at 10kHz offset. Further to this, the PCIe clock synthesizers support 2.5V and 3.3V power supply operation offering design flexibility with reduced power dissipation.

The SY75576L and SY75578L clock buffers are available with 4 and 8 outputs, respectively, and offer ultra-low additive phase jitter of sub-150fs with sub-50ps output-to-output skew. These features make the devices suitable for stringent PCI Express based server, storage, and networking applications.

All the devices operate at an industrial temperature range of ¬40°C to +85°C, whilst  the IC's packaging is Green, RoHS, and PFOS compliant. The devices are offered in 6-pin SOT (1 output), 16-pin 3mm,  3mm QFN (2 outputs), 24-pin 4mm x 4mm QFN (4 outputs), or 44-pin 7mm,  7mm QFN (8 outputs) package options.
