Block converters can handle multiple satellite transponders

Now available from Link Microtek is a range of block upconverters and downconverters that are designed to save space and simplify the layout of outdoor antenna systems for commercial or military satellite-communications applications.

Manufactured by MITEQ, the Multiple I/O Wideband series converters combine the functionality of either two or three separate units in a single robustly constructed antenna-mount package, enabling them to handle multiple wide-bandwidth satellite transponders simultaneously.

The upconverters accept either two or three independent IF inputs and upconvert them into one wideband RF output, while the downconverters take one Ku-band or Ka-band RF input and downconvert it into either two or three independent IF outputs.

Gain is specified as 27dB for the upconverters and 30dB for the downconverters, and both types feature a gain control facility and automatic selection of internal or 5/10MHz external reference oscillator. They offer excellent frequency stability and low intermodulation distortion, as well as phase-noise characteristics below the IESS308/309 and MIL-STD-188-164B specifications.

Front-panel LEDs and summary alarm signals provide status indication for mains power, local-oscillator frequency and DC voltage. In addition, the converters incorporate a 10/100Base-T Ethernet interface for browser-based remote monitoring and control with password protection.

Available in a variety of models covering different frequency ranges in the Ku and Ka bands, the block converters are housed in a compact weather-resistant enclosure and have an operating temperature range from -40 to +50°C.
