Amplifier delivers Psat of 24dBm across 71-76 & 81-86GHz

A four stage E-Band driver amplifier, suitable for high capacity macro cell and small cell backhaul point-to-point radios, has been released by M/A-COM Technology Solutions. The MAAM-011167 amplifier, which is based on the company’s MAAP-011106 E-Band Power amplifier, generates typical Psat of 24dBm across the 71-76GHz and 81-86GHz frequency ranges.

Providing flexible performance tuning, the amplifier supports 18dB of small signal gain with variable gain control. The amplifier also integrates a power detector, removing the losses and costs created by a seperate power detector. The MAAM-011167 amplifier, which can be used as a final stage power amplifier or a driver amplifier, is manufactured using a pHEMT process. To ensure performance compliance, the amplifier is RF tested.

“MACOM’s MMIC design expertise and decades-long innovation in point to point wireless backhaul technology has distinguished us as a leading supplier of power amplifiers across every frequency band,” said Stuart Cornelius, Wireless Backhaul Product Manager, MACOM. “With the introduction of our latest E-Band power amplifier, we’re making it easier for transceiver designers to achieve high linear power and gain control over the full E-Band spectrum, while including the convenience and performance of an integrated output power detector. The addition of the MAAM-011167 to our market leading E-Band portfolio gives radio designers further options to optimise the output power level to their end application requirements.”
