Menta licenses eFPGA IP to Renesas

Menta is proud to announce that it has entered into a license agreement with Renesas Electronics Corporation to provide its embedded FPGA (eFPGA) IP to empower Renesas’ continued development of its low-density ForgeFPGA product line.

The license gives Renesas access to Menta soft eFPGA IP which can be delivered via RTL (Register-Transfer Level) in a matter of days instead of waiting several months for typical hard eFPGA IP, translating into faster time to market and lower up-front and downstream costs. The license also includes Menta Origami Programmer, its own RTL to bitstream generation system, which delivers synthesis and place & route tools that will be seamlessly integrated into Renesas’ existing GoConfigure software hub. This integration ensures a smooth and intuitive user experience across all GoConfigure supported platforms.

“We are excited to collaborate with Menta on the next phase of ForgeFPGA product line growth,” said Jason Kim, General Manager and Vice President at Renesas. “Menta’s overall IP and software offering gives Renesas the competitiveness needed to impact the market. Together, we are poised to deliver highly innovative products and greater value to our customers.”

“We are proud to support Renesas in accelerating the ForgeFPGA roadmap with our fifth-generation eFPGA IP,” said Vincent Markus, CEO of Menta. “This collaboration reflects our shared vision to democratize programmable logic by enabling rapid integration, foundry independence, and optimal cost efficiency. With our standard cell-based architecture and our Origami Programmer software, Renesas gains the agility to address fast-moving markets with tailored, scalable solutions – without compromise. We look forward to driving long-term value together through innovation and execution.”

Menta’s eFPGA Silicon IP – additional information

  • Design-adaptable & flexible – 100% standard cell libraries; unlike the custom-cell technology of competitors being 100% standard cell allows Menta to deliver soft IP which can be physically implemented on ANY available foundry process
  • Highly secure by obfuscation as the bitstream for the eFPGA is unique to that device
  • Menta’s eFPGA IP can incorporate hard macros such as 3rd party block ram, or Menta patented DSPs
  • Menta eFPGA IP has been successfully radiation hardened and is silicon-proven on multiple foundry processes
  • Menta’s Origami Programmer tool offers full synthesis from IEEE Verilog, System Verilog and VHDL and highly efficient place & route. Can be used as a stand-alone application or integrated with a customer’s tool flow
  • Menta can deliver soft IP as RTL in as little as 2 weeks and also offers hard IP if requested by the customer

The ForgeFPGA family from Renesas fulfils the design need for relatively small amounts of programmable logic that can be quickly and efficiently designed into cost-sensitive applications. ForgeFPGA devices provide dramatic cost savings versus other alternatives, including non-FPGA designs.
