Functional safety coupled with high reliability and compact design is a crucial requirement in safety-related applications typically found in construction and agricultural equipment and vehicles and machines for specialist applications. Hoping to meet these needs EAO has introduced a new series of high-quality ruggedised CAN Bus Keypads and Rotary Cursor Controller Joystick modules.

Announcing availability of pre-production samples of the new Series 09 devices, Robert Davies, Marketing Manager with EAO, said that CAN Bus functionality ensures the highest level of safety: “The system itself monitors whether the safety-related function is working properly and if a function error does occur, promptly informs the operator.”

Available as a six-button module or as a two-button module with joystick, all Series 09 Can Bus devices share the same physical footprint. They require an ultra-low back panel depth, which with easy, speedy installation in either the vertical or horizontal plane is a feature highly valued by vehicle manufacturers today.

The electronic and mechanical actuators and indicators in the new CAN Bus Keypads and Rotary Cursor Controller Joystick modules are built for the utmost reliability and have been configured to meet the needs of demanding applications. The modules conform with EN ISO 13849 PLD and ISO 26262 ASIL B functional safety standards and are IP67 protected. The new modules will work reliably at operating temperatures between -40 to +85°C.

Davies added: “Night visibility is ensured by a configurable 4-segment LED halo button illumination and button legends are laser etched for longevity. Customers have the option of supplying their own custom graphics to meet specific end-user needs or selecting from EAO’s extensive library of industry-recognised ISO 7000 symbols.”
