Renesas Electronic today announced the availability of a solution kit that will revolutionize the application of low-power display technology across a broad array of products. Combining an RL78 low-power MCU, robust software drivers and a low-power, E Ink segmented display, the solution kit delivers a comprehensive, easy to use low-power reference design.
The solution provides designers with a robust alternative to traditional segmented LCD technology.

“Our RL78 MCU in combination with E Ink’s electronic paper technology provides an extremely low-power, thin, rugged segmented display solution to our customers at an affordable price point,” said Ritesh Tyagi, Senior Director, MCU Products, Renesas Electronics America. “This solution will simplify system design and allow our customers to bring products to market faster with lower power.”

Rob Williams, Director of North American Sales, E Ink, said, “Teaming with Renesas, we can provide our mutual customers with the system intelligence and software drivers they need to evaluate their designs before quickly moving to full production. The low-power RL78 MCU is a great complement to our low-power display technology.”

The solution includes ground-breaking technology that can operate at near zero power in applications like wireless sensors, industrial gauges, battery and memory level indicators among many others. Designers can use the solution kit as a reference design, reuse the software drivers, and evaluate system performance using the Low Power Display Solution Kit. The kit was developed in conjunction with BNS Solutions, a Platinum Alliance Partner of Renesas Electronics America.
