Two small-format TFT display modules from Japanese display manufacturer Kyocera have been introduced by Ginsbury. The 4.2in and a 5.0in display module expands the range of TFT display modules available from Kyocera. The design of the new display modules is based on automotive specification requirements and boasts an extended operating temperature range of -30°C to +85°C and a storage temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.

In addition, an anti-glare surface treatment improves readability in bright ambient environments.

The new 4.2in TFT display (T-57152GD042H-LW-AAN) features a resolution of 480 x 272 pixels. A contrast ratio of 1200:1, brightness rating of 700 cd/m² and 160 degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles ensure excellent optical performance. A 6-bit RGB CMOS interface provides up to 262K colours. The display module features compact mechanical outline dimensions of 102.5mm (w) x 67.0mm (h) x 8.5mm (d).

The 5.0in display module (T-55923GD050J-LW-ABN) is a portrait mode VGA display that features a resolution of 480 x 640 pixels. Optical characteristics include a brightness rating of 800 cd/m² and a 500:1 contrast ratio. Viewing angles are 140 degrees horizontal and 110 degrees vertical. The module has an 8-bit RGB CMOS data interface supporting up to 16.7M colours. Mechanical outline dimensions are 98.0mm (w) x 119.0mm (h) x 10.5mm (d).

Ken Berry, product marketing manager at Ginsbury said, “Portable outdoor devices are often exposed to variations in environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. The new extended temperature range Kyocera TFT display modules are specifically designed to provide reliable operation in challenging conditions.”

Both modules are targeted for use in harsh, wide operating temperature environments and applications such outdoor controls, industrial systems, navigation units and construction equipment.
