Controller board targets eDP TFT displays

An autonomous TFT controller board has been introduced by Distec. Featuring a HDMI and a DisplayPort input, the PrismaECO-eDP controls TFT displays via a dual-lane eDP interface. The device, which supports a resolution of WSXGA to WUXGA (1600×900 to 1920×1200), can control the brightness of the display backlight via PWM or analogue voltage or an optional ambient light sensor.

The featured configuration software, ChandlerRover, allows users to adjust port selection, timing, EDID programming. Configurations and OSD menu settings can be easily downloaded from the EEPROM of the controller board and transferred to other boards, enabling the fast serial production of precisely configured TFT controller boards for various applications.

“In modern TFT displays with full HD resolution, manufacturers are focusing more and more on embedded DisplayPort (eDP) as an input interface because, compared to LVDS, the eDP standard enables higher data rates and improved EMI performance at optimised power consumption,” says Matthias Keller, COO, Components, Distec. “This concerns particularly the medium sizes since the eDP interface is available in all current Intel and AMD chips, especially in the notebook/ultrabook area.”
